Before You Book

What vaccinations does my pet need to board?

Dogs boarding at The Pet Brigade need rabies, distemper and bordetella. Cats need rabies, feline leukemia and distemper, and a cat who is FIP positive cannot board. Distemper can be any combination shot for dogs and cats alike, so DA2PP, DHPP, DHLPP and FVRCP all count. Bring the dates and the office will check them.

Dogs

  • Rabies
  • Distemper, any combination (DA2PP, DHPP or DHLPP all count)
  • Bordetella

Cats

  • Rabies
  • Feline leukemia
  • Distemper, any combination (such as FVRCP)

Any distemper combination counts, for dogs and for cats. A cat who is FIP positive cannot board.

Exemptions

If your pet no longer requires a vaccine, or one of these is not recommended for your pet, the office needs a written exemption letter from your veterinarian.

Also Required

Every dog is safely pre-screened before the first daycare visit, must be healthy, and needs a current fecal exam record alongside the vaccinations.

Health Questions

What do owners ask about vaccination records?

Vaccination questions reaching The Pet Brigade are usually about timing rather than the list: a puppy finishing a fourth set of shots, an owner working out the rabies window, a senior dog whose vet has advised against a booster. The answers below cover records, exemption letters and who to ask.

What vaccinations does my pet need?

Dogs need rabies, distemper and bordetella; cats need rabies, feline leukemia and distemper. Distemper can be any combination shot, so DA2PP, DHPP, DHLPP and FVRCP all count. The full list is on the vaccinations page. If a vaccine is not recommended for your pet, they need a written exemption letter from your veterinarian.

Do you take puppies?

Yes. Puppies have a separate play area away from the larger dogs, with nap time and socialising at their own pace. Every dog, puppies included, is screened before the first visit and needs current vaccination and fecal exam records. Call the office for the minimum age, which is tied to the vaccination schedule rather than a fixed birthday: (253) 912-4898.

Do you board cats?

Yes. Cats have their own play room well away from the dogs, with carpeted posts, perches, hiding places and, in their words, all-day movies. Cat boarding is $37 a night for the first cat and $35 for each additional cat.

Can I see the place before I book?

Yes. Stop by the office for a tour any time of day, no appointment needed. There is more on the tour page.
